Committee to review medical and surgical formulary
Yale New Haven Health System has a new, clinician-led Clinical Governance Committee (CGC) that will oversee the medical and surgical supply formulary across the health system.
In addition to establishing a formulary for supplies, the committee will
create a standardized process for introducing new products to the formulary. The committee also will assess the current inventory of supplies in order
to minimize the amount of variation among products and ensure that
YNHHS uses the most clinically effective products in the most financially responsible manner.
With clinical members from across the system, the CGC will be supported by physician-led task forces and a Nursing Governance Committee. These groups will participate in the process of adding new medical/surgical products to
the formulary.
As of May 1, all requests for supplies not currently available on the formulary must be entered in Epic under the “Tools” section tab, or through contact with a designated site coordinator. Once a request is entered, the requestor will be contacted within two weeks about next steps. Depending on the extent of the clinical need and financial impact, requests may need to be presented to the Clinical Governance Committee. (This process is not part of the medication request process that includes local Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees.)
