In December 1985, New Haven Mayor Biagio DiLieto inducted 16 new YNHH security officers. YNHH’s Protective Services department began in 1968, but the hospital has had different forms of security since 1920. There were 60 full and part-time officers in 1968, compared to today’s staff of about 180 senior patrol officers, security specialists and central communication officers. Visit the archives display case in the York Street Campus Atrium between now and Aug. 28 to learn more about the department’s history.
