Donald M. Berwick, MD, president emeritus and senior fellow, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, will give the keynote talk at the 2016 YNHHS Patient Experience Conference, 8 am - 3:30 pm Thursday, Oct. 13, Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport. The former administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Dr. Berwick is recognized for his pioneering approach to reducing incidents of medical harm. In reviewing his contributions to healthcare reform, the New York Times reported, "Dr. Berwick has shown that it is possible to reduce medical errors and improve the quality of care while reducing its cost and has been described as 'a visionary leader.'"

Best-selling author Marcus Engel also will speak in the afternoon to tell his story of recovery after being blinded and catastrophically injured by a drunk driver. His message honors the skills and impact of healthcare professionals and inspires excellence in patient care. Engel is the author of After This ... An Inspirational Journey for All the Wrong Reasons. His story is the basis for an upcoming feature film, The Drop.

The conference will also feature a panel discussion with health system senior leaders about the new YNHHS standards of behavior.
