West Pavilion employee entrance temporarily closed

The West Pavilion employee entrance is closed for construction until Nov. 19. The construction project includes widening the entrance, installing a new door and making other improvements. Employees may use the main entrances to Smilow Cancer Hospital or Yale New Haven Children's Hospital during construction. Access to medical records and the Auxiliary office will be through the YNHCH/West Pavilion main entrance.

Voter registration drives Sept. 26, Oct. 3

Community and Government Relations will hold voter registration drives 11 am - 1 pm Monday, Sept. 26, York Street Campus Atrium, and 11 am - 1 pm Monday, Oct. 3, Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria. Those who register may vote in the November 8 election for president, U.S. Congress and state representatives. Voter registration forms will be available in English and Spanish. Nov. 1 is the deadline for voter registration in Connecticut by mail or online at voterregistration.ct.gov. People may also register in person with the registrar of voters in their town or city by Nov. 8. Employees with patients who wish to vote but will be hospitalized on Nov. 8 may contact Community and Government Relations for information on obtaining an absentee ballot application: [email protected] or 203-688-2503.

Issues in Trauma conference Sept. 29

YNHHS employees are invited to the 2016 Issues in Trauma Care conference, "Violent Crime: It's Time to Talk," 7:30 am - 4:30 pm Thursday, Sept. 29, Bridgeport Holiday Inn, 1070 Main St. Hosted by the Bridgeport Hospital Trauma Center, the event will cover handling trauma from the pre-hospital setting through recovery. CEU/CME credits will be provided. The conference is free to YNHHS employees; call 888-357-2396 to register. You will be asked for your employee ID number.

Mindfulness class for caregivers starts Sept. 29

Employee and Family Resources will hold Mindful Solutions, a five-week course for caregivers and employees. Classes will be 1 - 2 pm Thursdays, Sept. 29 - Nov. 10, in the SRC lobby conference room. They will cover meditation, body scans, mindful movement and other practices. Participants are invited to visit the first session before committing to the five-week class. Career exploration fair Oct. 8

Employees are invited to a career exploration information fair, 10 am - 2 pm Saturday, Oct. 8, Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria. Employees must present their YNHH badge for admission. Representatives from area colleges and organizations will discuss educational programs, and additional resources will be available for employees exploring healthcare opportunities. Employees invited to join Walktober campaign

YNHH is participating in the Walktober campaign, a goNewHavengo initiative to encourage people to walk more around the city and use sustainable modes of transportation whenever possible. YNHH will lead weekly walks, 11:30 am - noon on Tuesdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18, and 25. Walks go from the York Street Campus Atrium to/from Washington - Amistad Park. Walks are organized by the hospital's livingwellCARES team and Community and Government Relations. Healthcare Quality Week Oct. 16 - 22

During national Healthcare Quality Week, employees are invited to learn more about YNHH's quality improvement efforts at a series of events, including a kickoff at Morning Safety Report, 8 am Monday, Oct. 17, 55 Park St. auditorium, with live streaming to the Saint Raphael Campus Cronin Auditorium. Posters on quality improvement projects will be displayed 10 am - 2 pm Tuesday, Oct. 18, SRC cafeteria, upper level; and 10 am - 2 pm Thursday, Oct. 20, YSC Atrium, second floor. To learn more about quality improvement projects honored at the spring Joseph A. Zaccagnino Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Conference, visit the Yale New Haven Health System intranet, click "Performance Management" under Departments and choose "Performance Management Documents."
