Yale New Haven Hospital has announced details of its 2017 compensation and benefits program and changes to open enrollment for employees at Yale New Haven and throughout the health system.
"Once again, we are offering a strong compensation and benefits package that reflects our commitment to be an employer of choice, and includes enhancements based on employees' feedback," said Kevin A. Myatt, YNHHS senior vice president and chief human resources officer. "While the benefits program includes some unavoidable cost increases, we have worked diligently to find savings where possible."
This year's compensation program again rewards performance through merit-based pay increases, along with opportunities to earn additional compensation through YNHH's PIP program and special achievement awards.
Benefits program highlights
Components of the 2017 benefits program include:
- Lower out-of-pocket costs when employees use any YNHHS hospital laboratory and/or draw station for basic lab services that are not part of an annual physical exam. This change is a result of employee feedback.
- Lower co-pays for tier 4 "specialty medications" obtained through the YNHHS Outpatient Pharmacy Services/Apothecary.
- No change to dental or vision program premiums in 2017. Dental elections made during last year's open enrollment remain in effect through the end of 2017.
- A new voluntary benefit, hospital indemnity insurance, that offsets inpatient hospital out-of-pocket expenses.
This year's compensation and benefits program does include two unavoidable cost increases. One is to employees' medical premium contribution; however some of that increase will be offset by the up to $500 credit employees earned if they participated in the Know Your Numbers Plus program. The second increase is in prescription drug maximum co-pays, which had not been increased since 2012.
"Developing the compensation and benefits program requires us to thoughtfully balance the needs of our staff and organization with the environmental pressures we face as individuals, families and as an employer," Myatt said. "In addition to working to lessen the impact of cost increases, we continue to offer programs to help employees enhance their health and well-being."
More information on compensation and benefits will be available in the HR News to Use newsletter, from employees' managers and at upcoming benefits fairs.
Open enrollment begins Oct. 24
Open enrollment for health and related benefits is Monday, Oct. 24 - Friday, Nov. 18. This year, a new portal (ynhhsbenefits.com) will make enrollment easier and paperless. All information, materials and forms will be on the portal, which employees will also use to enroll for medical coverage and other benefits.
In addition:
- The open enrollment period has been extended, but there will be no separate "correction" period.
- Open enrollment packets will not be mailed to employees' homes; however employees will receive a home mailing with instructions on using the online portal.
- Employees may enroll online at work or home.
Employees who need assistance with online enrollment should contact the HRConnect benefits service center at 844-543-2147 or ynhhs.org/hrconnect.
