Yale New Haven Hospital will begin installing new Kronos time clocks in preparation for issuing new photo ID badges to employees as part of a process that will be phased in over the next six months.
The new badges, part of the health system's rebranding initiative, will have embedded proximity chips – unlike the magnetic strip on the current ID badges. With the new system, employees will simply hold their badges up to the new clocks, instead of swiping in and out, as in the past.
The process of installing the clocks and issuing new badges will be phased in by locations. The new Kronos readers will begin to be installed throughout YNHH gradually, and in most locations, there will be two time clocks temporarily – the old and the new.
Employees should NOT go to the Security office for a new badge. Instructions on when, where and how to get a new badge will be provided to employees in each location at the appropriate time. Current badges will continue to work for building access, parking and meal deductions until they are replaced.
Per system policy, new badges will include first and last names and credentials of all licensed employees, e.g., MD, RN, PA, RT, PT, PharmD, LCSW, etc. No action is required on the part of staff unless they request a preferred first name different from the one listed on their pay stub. Managers must approve all changes. For more information, see Identification Badge Information on the intranet home page.
