On Feb. 13, Katie and Aaron Wade and their newborn daughter became the first family to enjoy one of the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit’s couplet rooms. YNHCH is the first academic medical center in the U.S. to offer couplet rooms in the NNICU, where postpartum mothers and their babies who require neonatal intensive care remain together during care. This strengthens the maternal-infant bond by fostering skin-to-skin contact, supporting breastfeeding and further inducing healing. The family was joined by Kelly Kline, RN, NNICU (center), and Hannah Sturman, RN, Mother/Baby Postpartum unit (right).
