Monthly dinner services support homeless of New London

For the past five years, Community Outreach Committee members from the New London region have provided a monthly dinner service to residents of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center.

On the fourth Saturday of every month, a different NEMG office volunteers to prepare a warm meal, which typically includes an entree, salad, bread, desserts and drinks, for approximately 25 to 30 center residents. The most recent dinner was Aug. 24; the next is scheduled for Sept. 28.

The center is a place of safety and welcome to adults facing homelessness in southeastern Connecticut. It collaborates with dozens of public and private organizations to address the underlying causes of homelessness for each person and help them find permanent housing as quickly as possible.

“The monthly meals we provide to the center have been great events, and so many employees have had the opportunity to participate over the past few years,” said Katie Poitras Sellari, manager, practice operations. “The residents are always so appreciative, and we enjoy getting together and helping them.”

The Community Outreach Committee (COC) is instrumental in carrying out NEMG’s mission to help the communities we serve. For information or to join, contact Robert Mitchell, practice operations manager, 203-384-5109. Watch for more information on committee initiatives.
