PEACE recognition

These employees received Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence recognition for going above and beyond for patients and families.

Yale New Haven Hospital

Jackie Northrop

Jackie Northrop, lead patient experience ambassador, Guest Services, was honored for supporting the child of a critically ill patient. During an 18-month period when the patient was in and out of the ICU, Northrop developed a rapport with the child and offered support to him so the father could attend to his wife. The family came to rely on Northrop every time they arrived for numerous treatments and hospital stays, viewing her as a familiar comfort.

Teams from EP 9-5
Representing the teams who received PEACE recognition were (l-r): Antonio Onofrio, RN, assistant patient services manager, SRC ED; Brendan Denny, RN, assistant patient services manager, EP 9-5; Jen Powers, RN, patient services manager, SRC ED; Piper Brien, senior manager, Bed Management; and Daina Gordon, Bed Management associate.

Teams from EP 9-5 and the Emergency Departments at the York Street and Saint Raphael campuses were honored for providing compassionate and collaborative care to two patients. A husband went into cardiac arrest while his wife was in the SRC ED. Nursing staff resuscitated him, but a work-up showed a head bleed and the husband was transferred to the YSC ED as a trauma patient. Both campus’ ED teams collaborated to have the wife also transferred to the YSC ED to be with her husband and their family. Further collaboration with Bed Management and EP 9-5 staff allowed the husband and wife to be in the same room so they could spend his final hours together.

All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for PEACE. Send nominations to: [email protected].
