Yale New Haven Health System

YNHHS to acquire Nelson Ambulance and affiliates

Nelson Ambulance

Yale New Haven Health has entered into an agreement to acquire Nelson Ambulance and its affiliates, including Access Ambulance. Nelson is a Connecticut-based medical transport business with hubs across YNHHS’ service area.

Regulatory approval is required for the acquisition, which would strengthen the system’s transport capabilities and create a more integrated experience for patients across the YNHHS continuum of care.

“Nelson Ambulance is a critical part of the medical transport business across Connecticut,” said Christopher O’Connor, CEO, YNHHS. “This acquisition will allow for more direct supervision of patient transport and better coordination and more efficient integration with medical staff. The result will be better, safer care from arrival to discharge.”

The health system already works closely with Nelson; the acquisition will build upon its existing relationship to enhance communication tools and quality and safety methods. It will also help grow the health system’s emergency medical services capabilities.

Pending regulatory approval, YNHHS anticipates closing this transaction in the next several months. In the meantime, the health system will work to ensure a smooth integration of the Nelson Ambulance operations and team – including making offers of employment to substantially all Nelson employees in good standing – into Yale New Haven Health.
