Farm Stand is back at Bridgeport Hospital

For the fifth year, Bridgeport Hospital is helping to bring fresh produce to the community with its weekly Farm Stand at 200 Mill Hill Ave. The stand, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables from Smith’s Acres, runs 3:30 to 5:30 pm Thursday afternoons now through Oct. 24.

“We know that food insecurity is a big issue in our community, as is access to fresh produce,” said Gina Smith, community health manager in the Office of Health Equity and Community Impact. “We want to make healthy food easily accessible, so people can pick up produce while passing through the neighborhood or coming to see their physician at Bridgeport Hospital.”

The Farm Stand is open to the whole community along with staff, patients and visitors. The first 25 customers each week receive a $5 voucher, good toward a produce purchase.

The Farm Stand accepts cash, credit/debit cards, senior and WIC farmers market program incentives and SNAP/EBT benefits. SNAP/EBT dollars are doubled through a partnership with the Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative and End Hunger CT.

“These incentives help make the Farm Stand even more affordable for customers,” said Smith.
