Yale New Haven Hospital Medical-Surgical units Celentano 4 on the Saint Raphael Campus and EP 4-6 on the York Street Campus recently received PRISM Awards from the national Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses and Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board.
PRISM stands for Premier Recognition In the Specialty of Medical-Surgical. The award recognizes sustained excellence in patient/care management, holistic patient care, elements of interprofessional care, professional concepts and nursing teamwork and collaboration.
Mark Lee, RN, Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses board of directors presented the awards July 1.
“Any type of recognition of this caliber requires a significant investment from so many people,” said Francine LoRusso, RN, YNHH senior vice president, Operations, and executive director, Heart and Vascular, Transplant, Medicine and Radiology Services. “Our Medicine dyad leaders, clinical coordinators, quality and safety staff, educators, all the individuals on these units and our multidisciplinary colleagues have made such a difference.”
“When I saw the encapsulation of what you have done, I thought, ‘This is absolutely remarkable,’” said Katherine Heilpern, MD, YNHH president. “As they say, ‘Teamwork makes the dream work,’ and these two units are the embodiment of that.”
