Community outreach activities shine bright for those in need

Greenwich region Northeast Medical Group practices recently collected non-perishable food and personal hygiene items for Homes for the Brave of Bridgeport, which helps veterans and their families with housing, case management and vocational services.

“We appreciate the veterans’ sacrifices and all they have done for our country,” said Carmen Ortega, practice supervisor. “I sincerely thank everyone who helped support our veteran community with this drive.”

On July 24, NEMG Community Outreach Committee (COC) members hosted their monthly volunteer meal program at the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Valhalla, NY. The program, now in its fourth year, provides a much-needed service to families who are supporting their sick children and don’t often have the time, financial means or energy to prepare a healthy, home-cooked meal.

“Clinicians, team members and their families have all taken part in preparing dinner services and find it to be an extremely rewarding experience,” said Jessica Morandi, manager, practice operations.

For the past four weeks, New London region NEMG practices have been collecting classroom supplies for several area schools. All donations will be dropped off at schools the week of Aug. 19. Maria Garcia, practice administrative lead, and supplies drive co-leader with Melisa Simpkins, MA, said, “It’s not just about collecting school supplies. It’s about empowering our communities with the tools to build brighter futures.”

The Community Outreach Committee (COC) is instrumental in carrying out NEMG’s mission to help the communities we serve. For information or to join, contact Robert Mitchell, practice operations manager, 203-384-5109. Watch for more information on committee initiatives.
