Ibania Estrada, nursing assistant, Surg 2 and Ortho 1, received PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition for going above and beyond. She was watching her son’s soccer game when her daughter pointed to a man lying on the field and yelled, “Mommy, he needs help!” Estrada ran over and found the man unresponsive with no pulse. She performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. The man had a pulse when the ambulance took him, but unfortunately passed away at the hospital. Estrada had no prior healthcare experience when she joined Greenwich Hospital a year ago as part of the rapid recruitment initiative. She recently graduated from the PCA/PCT Registered Residency Program and is studying to become a respiratory therapist.
Pedro Hernandez, RN, Medicine (SLA 4), recently received a Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence for providing compassionate care to a patient bedbound with complex medical issues. Concerned about the patient’s skin integrity, Hernandez requested a wound consult. Because the patient was in pain and confused by multiple people in and out of his room, Hernandez came in on his day off to meet with the provider and discuss treatment recommendations to ensure the patient felt heard and supported.
All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for PEACE. Send nominations to: [email protected].
