The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has recognized the Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus Intensive Care Unit with a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence, the highest level a unit can achieve.
The Milford Campus ICU is one of very few ICUs in the state to receive this prestigious designation and the first to meet gold-level criteria.
The national award recognizes caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with the AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards, which include skilled communication, true collaboration, effective decision-making, appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition and authentic leadership.
“This recognition signifies exceptional care in a unit that puts patients first. It highlights our caregivers and our environment as well as the consistent approach to evidence-based care, culture, patient outcomes and our nursing workforce,” said Anne Diamond, DBA, JD, Bridgeport Hospital president.
Awardees demonstrate an effective and systematic approach to policies, procedures and processes that include engagement of staff and key stakeholders; fact-based evaluation strategies for continuous process improvement; and performance measures that meet or exceed relevant benchmarks.
