Library partnership keeps kids reading

Studies show that from kindergarten to high school, children with strong reading skills have a positive attitude toward school, have more confidence and perform better overall.

In an effort to keep children reading, Northeast Medical Group Community Outreach Committee members from the Bridgeport region are partnering with Bridgeport’s Newfield Public Library to collect books for children in grades K - 8, through September 30. To make a book donation, email Maria Alicea, preventive health coordinator, [email protected].

The library distributes books to children throughout the year for special accomplishments, holidays and during summer.

“Donating a book or two will inspire a child to read, and a child who reads will be an adult who thinks,” said Alicea, chairperson for the collection.
