Beginning Dec. 1, YNHHS non-exempt employees must record their meal breaks at the Kronos time clock when they swipe out at the end of their work shift. YNHHS is also introducing an option to help employees avoid lines at the Kronos clock. Called a “PC-swipe” – it offers the ability to clock in or out at a YNHHS computer in your work area.
“We’ve enhanced certain tasks related to timekeeping to make it easier for employees to record their time accurately and help managers cut through some of the process of adjusting timecards for missed swipes or meal breaks,” said Melissa Turner, YNHHS senior vice president and chief human resources officer. “The new digital process also provides us with more accurate record-keeping to support our policies and labor laws.”
As of Dec. 1, at the end of their shift when they swipe out, non-exempt employees will see a message on the Kronos clock (or any YNHHS device with access Kronos via the intranet): Did you take a meal break? If the answer is yes, you’ll be prompted to record the time of your meal break before leaving. If your answer is no, the Kronos system will ask you to select the reason (listed as either Department Needs or Personal Needs). The Kronos system will notify your manager, who will follow up with you.
This new process also means a change for non-exempt employees who use Teletime. Since Teletime does not include an option to record meal breaks, these employees will need to record their time using a Kronos time clock or PC-swipe, effective Nov. 11. Non-exempt employees such as Health at Home who work in the field without access to time clocks or PC-swipe will continue to use Teletime.
While recording meal breaks is new, the practice of swiping at the beginning and end of the work shift remains the same. You can choose to use the Kronos time clocks or PC-swipe on any YNHHS device with intranet access. If you choose to record your time and meal breaks using PC-swipe, you’ll need to log in to Kronos by following these steps:
