Several New London region practices participated in the Stock the Classroom drive to collect learning supplies for area schools. The initiative yielded multiple boxes filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers and art supplies to help kick off the start of the school year.
“Many of the schools in the region have no budget for school supplies,” said Cristin Gill, practice supervisor. “This event helped support teachers and students who would have otherwise had to supplement these necessary items out of their own pockets.”
Throughout September, a pet supply drive was held to help local animal rescue organizations. Donations, which included dog and cat food, collars, leashes, litter boxes, cat carriers and toys, were distributed to New London Animal Control, the Connecticut Humane Society and Stand Up for Animals of Westerly, RI.
On Oct. 6, Katie Poitras-Sellari, practice operations manager, and Ali Carroll, practice supervisor, led a team in the Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk at Avery Point in Groton to raise funds for research to fight heart disease and stroke.
The New London region also kicked off its annual “Socktober” event, when NEMG practices collect warm socks for residents of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center – a place of safety and welcome to adults facing homelessness in southeastern Connecticut.
