Spirits were high as Greenwich Hospital Volunteer Services hosted its annual luncheon for volunteers, featuring the presentation of the President’s Volunteer Service Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Mimi Clement, who began volunteering in 2007 and spends most of her time at the Thrift Shop, received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which is given to a volunteer who has completed over 4,000 hours of service in their lifetime. The President’s Award was created in 2003 by George W. Bush and the Presidential Council on Service and Civic Participation.
The Volunteer of the Year Award is given to a volunteer who has provided outstanding service in support of Greenwich Hospital through the gift of time, energy, resources and goodwill. This year’s award went to Marguerite “Marge” Bennett, a long-time volunteer who received the President’s Award in 2019 and has given over 5,700 hours of service to the hospital.
Special recognition was extended to the Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop for exceeding $1 million in sales for the second consecutive year, and to the Greenwich Hospital Gift Shop for doubling its income from the previous year. With both shops doing well, the Auxiliary donated $400,000 of its earnings to support the Greenwich Hospital Research Project.
The event also honored volunteers with 10, 20 or 30 years of service. Greenwich Hospital volunteers collectively donated 28,778 hours of service in the last year.
“We are so grateful for the selfless work of our dedicated volunteers,” said Stacey Green, director of Volunteer Services at Greenwich Hospital. “Between the generous donation from the Auxiliary and the opportunity to recognize volunteers who have donated so much of their valuable time to our mission, it was a great day.”
