At an Oct. 28 ceremony at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, 30 Yale New Haven Health nurses received Marna P. Borgstrom and Peter N. Herbert Advanced Nursing Education Scholarships to pursue advanced nursing degrees.
The Hollander Family Foundation began awarding the scholarships in memory of Betty Ruth and Milton Hollander, who were inspired to support Yale New Haven Hospital nurses struggling to pursue advanced degrees while raising children and working. The foundation has since expanded the scholarship program to nurses at other YNHHS delivery networks.
Since the program’s inception 14 years ago, scholarships have been awarded to 109 nurses across the health system, including 70 from YNHH, 16 from Bridgeport Hospital, 18 from Greenwich Hospital, and for the first time this year, five from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
Joining the awardees at the ceremony were Peter Herbert, MD, Hollander family representative Aaron Hollander, DN chief nursing officers and other nursing leaders. Borgstrom, former YNHHS CEO, was unable to attend.
