Michelle Carrara, RN, recently won the 2024 Claire Puklin Nursing Award for exemplifying the highest standards of nursing practice in Urology.

The award was established in 2013 after Puklin’s untimely death due to pancreatic cancer; she was a Yale New Haven Hospital Urology nurse for over 30 years.

Carrara was praised in a nomination for her dedication to patient-centered care, unyielding compassion, tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment to the L+M Urology team.

“Michelle’s exceptional ability to connect with our patients is one of her most outstanding qualities,” wrote Timothy Tran, MD, associate professor of Urology, Yale School of Medicine. “Michelle consistently demonstrates kindness and patience, providing comfort and support for patients during their most difficult moments. She is a highly skilled nurse and a true clinical expert. Her advanced assessment skills and critical thinking are evident in her ability to meet the complex needs of our patients.”

“I love helping our patients and providing the best possible care,” said Carrara, who has worked at L+M for 35 years in various roles. “This award is only possible because of my colleagues in the Urology Department. Everyone works together to be compassionate, professional and committed to excellence.”
