L+M’s Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit celebrated its “Best in Connecticut” designation with an ice cream sundae party.

A make-your-own sundae ice cream party at L+M Hospital served as sweet celebration after the Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (5.1) recently was named the best rehabilitation hospital in Connecticut by Becker’s Hospital Review.

In a separate category, Becker’s also named Bridgeport Hospital’s Milford Campus best physical rehabilitation in the state.

Becker’s used data compiled by U.S. News and World Report after it evaluated 1,049 hospitals nationwide and ranked them for care of patients recovering from events such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and severe burns.

“We are a unique unit where every member of the team is an important link in the chain that helps patients recover to their maximum level of independence,” said Debra Merola-Boutin, RN, nurse manager.

Rebecca Burrell, manager of Inpatient Rehab, said collaboration across all disciplines is a key to the unit’s success. “The Rehab staff – which includes Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and Therapeutic Recreation – strives to establish great relationships with patients and families. And we all love our jobs and take pride in our work,” she said.
