Members of the Westerly Hospital Auxiliary hosted their annual Valentine’s Day Tea for employees on Feb. 14, and staff members said they truly appreciated the sweet tradition.
“It’s so nice of the Auxiliary to do this for us, and it means a lot,” said Shelby Deutsch, an X-ray tech in the Cath Lab. “It’s fun to enjoy all the goodies and to take a break with colleagues, and it’s nice to feel appreciated.”
Barbara Wright, Auxiliary president, said the Valentine’s Day Tea has been held for more than 40 years, with a few years missed because of the COVID pandemic. “Many of our Auxiliary members used to work here, so we know how hard everyone works,” Wright said. “This is just a way to say thank you to everyone for all they do for patients, and to give them a little break from their routines.”
All cookies, brownies, shortbread – even little sandwiches stuffed with cream cheese and olives – were made by Auxiliary members. The event was held in the Nardone Conference Center, overlapping between first and second shifts. Trays of goodies were also brought to units for employees working nights.
